Phil Hilton has been working in radio for over twenty years in many different fields of programming and management. He began his career in Dublin, at the time one of the most competitive radio markets in Europe. His professional broadcasting style and knowledge of music helped Sunshine 101 gain a number one rating of 43%. From Ireland, Phil moved to the BBC in Liverpool to gain more experience of news/talk formats as a Presenter and Producer at the top BBC local station in the country, BBC Radio Merseyside.

Recognising the new opportunities available to commercial radio, Phil left the BBC to work on a successful licence application in his home town of Southport. Phil was instrumental in forming and leading the applicant group and took responsibility for design and studio equipment, managing the programme staff and music. During the research for the Dune FM licence, Phil also had a successful freelance career as a presenter on Granada TV in Manchester and Magic 1548 in Liverpool.

Asked to come back to the BBC in 1996, Phil took up the challenge to work with a newly formed ‘troubleshooting’ team put together to consult with the BBC’s 40 local stations to grow and develop reach, share and listening hours, on-air station sound, music and editorial output. Now working as an independent consultant, Phil spends his time working closely with BBC and Commercial clients on station sound issues, change management, branding and on-air promotions.
